Wyre Council purchases its second empty home in Fleetwood as part of the Affordable Housing Delivery Programme

24th of February, 2026

Wyre Council has secured its second empty property, this time in Fleetwood, as part of the Affordable Housing Delivery Programme (AHDP).

The programme pledged that £1.4m of developer contributions from housing sites across Wyre would be ringfenced to deliver affordable housing in the borough.

Works are proposed to begin around Spring 2026 with a full renovation and, once complete, will be offered as an affordable home ownership product. The works will incorporate a range of green initiatives to ensure the home is both cost‑efficient and environmentally sustainable from the inside out.

The property will be marketed as a “discount market” home. This model of affordable home ownership allows the purchaser to own 100% of the property while paying only 80% of its full open‑market value. Eligible applicants will need to meet the local connection criteria and also a financial assessment – more details to be announced nearer to the time of the sale.

Councillor Le Marinel, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy & Economic Development said:

“After the success of our first purchase, we are delighted to have secured our second empty property.

This exciting initiative breathes new life into empty, disused, or dilapidated properties, ultimately transforming them into safe and energy efficient homes for those in need.”

Director of Communities, Marianne Hesketh, added:

“This is an innovative way for the Council to transform empty properties into homes for people who may otherwise struggle to take their first step onto the property ladder.

“Bringing an empty home back into use delivers a wide range of benefits for the community. Empty properties can become eyesores and attract anti‑social behaviour, so by revitalising this house we’re not only creating a much‑needed affordable home, we are also helping to enhance the local area for residents.”
