WYRE COMMUNITY AWARDS
The Wyre Community Awards (with the Wyre Moving Awards) will take place at Thornton Football Club (FY5 4JH) on Thursday 12 November.
The ceremony will take place at twilight, starting around 5pm and ending around 7pm (this will be confirmed nearer to the time). There will be hot food and the function room’s bar will be available.
This year, the nomination process has changed. You may nominate an organisation to be shortlisted. Then shortlisted organisations will be contacted and asked to contribute and complete their entry. (In previous years, the nominator has had responsibility for finalising an entry.) This should take the pressure off the person who nominates and allows organisations to put in their own words why they should win an award.

OPPORTUNITY
British Heart Foundation – Free Community Defibrillators
Deadline: 28 February 2027 but will close when they’ve all gone!
Who for: Resident groups, informal groups, faith groups, sports groups, social clubs, charities, CICs, community centres, parish councils
What for: BHF’s corporate partners, Sky Bet and Royal Mail, are funding defibrillators. These must be stored in an external, unlocked cabinet with an electricity supply.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
The Morecambe Bay Wills & Estates Fund
Deadline: Ongoing, the decision panel will meet quarterly. It opens on 14 September.
Who for: Groups with their own bank account, charities, CICs
What for: A project demonstrating a benefit to the local community
How much for: £250 and £500

Lancashire County Council Champion Grants Scheme
Deadline: Ongoing
Who for: Groups with their own bank account, charities, CICs
What for: County Council Champions (who are elected County Councillors) are allocated £10,000 to support their work and aims. Grants can be used for repair & refurbishment, provision of equipment, community events, and wellbeing (outings, health & fitness etc.)
There are 7 champions:
- Champion for Armed Forces and Veterans (this fund is currently unavailable)
- Champion for Combatting Sexual Exploitation and Violence Against Women & Girls
- Champion for Disabled People
- Champion for Mental Health
- Champion for Older People
- Champion for Rural Affairs, the Agricultural Community & Parishes
- Champion for Young People
How much for: Minimum £100

Veolia Sustainability Fund
Deadline: Uncertain
Who for: Individuals, community groups, not-for-profit organisations
What for: As well as environmental initiatives, the fund now welcomes social projects such as youth development initiatives, employment support programmes, rehab projects. Wyre is one of 34 locations where funds will be allocated.

Triangle Trust 1949 Fund – Young Women Aged 17 – 30
Deadline: Expressions of interest close at 2pm on 15 October
Who for: Charities and CICs. Must be an organisation led by girls & women for girls & women or a housing, employment or family support organisation.
What for: Organisations supporting young women who are already involved with, or at risk of becoming involved with, the criminal justice system.
How much for: Up to £50,000 per year
